ProfotoProfoto was founded in Stockholm in 1968 by photographer and engineer Eckhard Heine and photography equipment retailer Conny Dufgran. Their relationship began when Conny sold Eckhard a flash unit which didn’t work. Annoyed with the faulty unit, Eckhard went home to invent a new type of flash. He returned a few weeks later with a superior design. A few years after that, Eckhard and Conny exhibited the first Pro-1 generator at the Photokina trade show in Cologne and it was an instant success. With this success, Profoto was born and since then has only continued to thrive and advance.
Today, Profoto is the world’s leading manufacturer of photography lighting systems. We have subsidiaries and distributors in more than 50 countries. We constantly refine and improve our equipment, driven by the same ambition that once drove Eckhard and Conny to inspire photographers to explore the endless light shaping possibilities of Profoto. Profoto produces products with the most important person in mind, the photographer. We build state-of-the-art units with an easy-to-use interface. Our commitment to the photographer is why we never take any shortcuts when it comes to absolute consistency in output and color temperature. That’s why some photographers still use the original units Eckhard and Conny built. That’s why the units we now build will stay with you over the years, as you continue to grow both your career and your equipment.
Profoto offers professional studio and location flash equipment, distinctive light-shaping tools, and the ability to enhance the creativity of the photographer. We produce the most dependable flash available at rental houses around the world. That’s why we aren’t afraid to say we make the best lighting systems in the world.
