Get an introduction to the tools, content, and special offers that our website brings to photography students and educators.Welcome to the MAC-On-Campus website!
We created this website with the same goal that the MAC-On-Campus program has kept in sight over its 16-year history—to bring photography students and educators the tools and information they need to learn and teach the art, craft, and business of creating superlative images. We’ve designed new online tools that will keep you in touch with your peers and let you share your work with them, and we’ve partnered with some of the finest names in photography publishing to bring you content that will inform and educate you about photographic techniques, tools, and practices. MAC-On-Campus.com is a place you can visit to get acquainted with the resources that will help and inform you throughout your career as a photographer.
If you’re a photography student or an educator in the field, the best way to take advantage of the site is to register for a free account. When you do, you’ll be given a personal home page where you can post your own portfolios, network and share with others, collect all of your favorite content from the site, create and join photography-oriented groups, and stay abreast of the latest news from both your peers and MAC Group. You'll also get access to our online app for creating and sharing lighting diagrams in the MOC Studio. If you're an educator, you'll get exclusive access to the Faculty Lounge.
To get started, here’s an introduction to what you’ll find on the MAC-On-Campus website:
Learning Center: This is where you’ll find educational material on photographic techniques, technology, and practices, and get acquainted with some of the best writers, authors, and publishers in the world of photography. Our Learning Center offers articles, book excerpts, videos, and podcasts by independent experts in the field and publishers such as Focal Press, Rocky Nook, Peachpit, Amherst Media, and Resource Magazine. Our Off-Campus Resources listings in the Learning Center will point you in the direction of even more sources of information on photography.
Auditorium: You’ll find interviews and presentations given by noted photographers and other industry professionals here, and you’ll be able to ask upcoming interview guests questions of your own.
Career Center: Our Career Center offers articles, book excerpts, and videos that address the business side of photography and offer students insight into all of the options that an education in the field opens up. The Photo Assistant Guide section of the Career Center focuses specifically on information for current assistants and students who are considering working as an assistant, and the Career Resources listings provide links to the many organizations that provide support and resources for both working professionals and students.
Gallery: The Gallery is a place where you can show your work and see what other students and educators are creating. When you become a MAC-On-Campus member and post your own portfolio on your personal page, you’ll have the option of allowing it to be displayed in the public Gallery. There you can comment on other photographers' portfolios, receive comments on your own work, and find other students and educators that you’d like to keep in touch with through our social networking tools. And, just like on the old MAC-On-Campus site, we’ll select a student’s work to feature each month. When you allow your portfolios to be displayed in the Gallery, you’ll automatically be eligible for selection as a Featured Student.
Studio: In our Studio, you can get down to the brass tacks of creating an image. Its online tools allow you to create, save, and print lighting diagrams. You can also view diagrams created by other students and professionals, and share and download your favorite shot setups.
Events: Our calendar of events will keep you informed about all kinds of upcoming events in the world of photography and photography education, including award and grant deadlines, open houses, conferences, and free webinars. You can bookmark the ones that interest you to your personal calendar, which you’ll find in the personal home page that will be available when you register as a MAC-On-Campus member.
Store: The Store is where students and educators can purchase products from MAC Group partner companies at a significant educational discount. You can save the gear that interests you in a shopping list on your own personal home page, too.
Equipment Checkout Room: Just like the equipment checkout room at your school, the MAC-On-Campus Equipment Checkout Room is all about gear. It’s where you’ll find product manuals, guides, video demonstrations and tutorials, and other technical information on gear from MAC Group partner companies. If you’re wondering how to make the best use of your equipment or the gear you're considering using, this is the place to look.
Faculty Lounge: The Lounge is available exclusively to eductors who register on MOC. It's a place to find information on the latest tools and technology for photography instruction, read Bill Gratton's blog, join and create educator-only discussion groups, read our profiles of featured educators, and check the calendar for upcoming conferences and deadlines for grants and other applications.
Special Offers: We’ve partnered with liveBooks and Marathon Press to bring students and educators discounts on creating websites and promotional items. When you become a member of MAC-On-Campus and present proof of your student or educator status, you’ll be eligible to receive them.
We hope that you’ll enjoy all the tools and information that the new MAC-On-Campus offers. We’ll be adding new articles, videos, podcasts, discounts, and news to the site every day—and bringing you new tools designed especially for photography students and educators over the coming months.
Prospectus: In the Prospectus, you'll soon be able to find information about a wide range of photography schools and programs. Check the campus calendar for open houses, and create or join a discussion group to network with other students and alums of your school of choice.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on the site. Tell us what you like best about it, what you wish we’d do differently, and what kinds of content, information, and tools you’d like us to add. You can click here or on the link at the bottom of every page to send us your comments. The MAC-On-Campus site was created for you, so don’t be shy.
All the best,
Bill Gratton, MAC Group National Manager of Educational Markets
