Transfer

For the past year and a half, I have dedicated myself to using instant film. This medium has given me the ability to push my portraiture to a new level because of its pliable and untamable nature. Along with using dramatic lighting to set the tone of these images, I use the image transfer process as a tool to enhance the intensity and dynamic nature of the portrait. This series is about comfort as an enemy that limits me. For everything that is introduced in my life as new or unfamiliar, awkward angst and tensions arise, but eventually I will grow. I agree with the belief that life is easiest when we stick to what we know. Yet sometimes it is more invigorating to let nature run its own course. I am in complete control of these photographs. However I give up that control in the juxtaposition between the portrait and image transfer process.
